When measuring the size of a window you measure the width and height as the
distances from the inside edge of the timber sub-frame to the opposite inside edge.
If the window is to be fitted direct to brick or stone with no timber sub-frame then
measure the width and height as the distances from the inside edge of the brick or
stone to the opposite inside edge.

When a window with a timber sub-frame is divided up by timber verticals,
called mullions, then the metal frames between the mullions are treated
as individual windows. Measure the widths as the distances from the inside
edge of the timber sub-frame to the mullion, and then mullion to mullion
and so on. You would, for example,treat the window below as 5 individual
windows

of the stone to the mullion, and then mullion to mullion and so on.
